64th Street - A Detective Story ($0.99) by DotEmu is a classic old arcade game. If you don’t remember “64th Street A Detective Story,” it was a popular game back in the early 90’s. It was available on Jaleco Mega Systems when it was first released in 1991, later it made an appearance on the Super Nintendo and became much more popular.

Now in 2011, developers have brought this great title to our iDevices. The gameplay itself hasn’t changed since the original, and even the menus and the weapons are the same. This is because, the game actually uses an emulator and loads the original SNES game file. In the past Apple didn't like emulators, but in recent years that has begun to change. As users, we can expect to see many other emulated classic titles arriving in the app store.

The game is an old-fashioned beat ‘em up arcade game. The controls on the right side are: jump and attack. The virtual joystick on the left is used to move your character around. The game is fairly simple to operate, so anyone should be able to just pick it up and play. Players can also use weapons and health items throughout the game.

The gameplay is a bit repetitive, but this is the norm for many classics from the 90’s. For what the game provides, and what it costs, it's an excellent classic to pick up for your iDevice.

Overall, for a classic Super Nintendo game redesigned for the iPhone, the developers have done a fantastic job. The controls are smooth and simple; users will enjoy the entire game with all of its original modes and levels.
