Is Samsung About To Start A Tablet Pricing War?

March 15, 2011
One of the iPad’s main competitors, the Samsung Galaxy might soon be available at a lower price. Could this signal the long-expected pricing war in the growing tablet market? According to Hardmac, Samsung will be launching a Wi-Fi only model of its Galaxy tablet and price it at $399. This would be $100 less than the cheapest iPad available today, the Wi-Fi 16GB model. The new tablet might ship as early as next month. The new Galaxy would come with the same specifications as the current Galaxy model. This includes a 7-inch display, single core ARM CPU, and Android 2.2 OS. This is either a brilliant move on Samsung's part or a sign of desperation. However, it is probably long overdue. Since it debuted in April 2010, one of the iPad's many strengths has been its price. By undercutting Apple, Samsung could begin a pricing war long expected. What do you think?
