Arno the Hunter ($0.99) by Jonathan Kreuzer is the opportunity we have all been waiting for to exercise our archery skills. Play through hunting excursions with beautiful animated alien levels including plains, snowy mountains and a dark forest. Watch out for the local wildlife though, some will fight back! You may even encounter giant creatures that will require sharp aim and quick reflexes to be brought down. Don’t forget to lookout for several different power-ups as well. Players will find anything from extra health to unstoppable boomerangs and even explosives.

This game is broken down into three worlds, each with numerous levels and creatures. Players will start with the simplest of bird-like animals flying above, these won’t even attack you. Shortly after players will begin to dodge balls of fire and explosions from larger things. Before you know it you’ll be up against your first “boss.” I put that in parentheses simply because the first boss is a bit inadequate and falls short of a challenge. Although as players move forward through the game it does become progressively harder.

The controls are simple and self-explanatory, tilt your device to roll your character and tap to shoot. Players will have access to their power-ups on the left side of the screen, simply tap what you would like to use when it’s available.

Graphics are always a large part of any app, especially games. A fundamentally great game can be deemed a failure if it lacks sharp and vivid graphics. Ever notice how Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja never look blocky or pixelated and seem to use very vivid colors? This game does an excellent job of following that theme. Although there isn’t an iPad specific version, so the iPhone version played on an iPad can look a little pixelated if “2x” is enabled. Don’t let this stop you from enjoying a great game.

All together Arno the Hunter is an entertaining archery experience for the iPhone and iPad. Players will enjoy hours of fun as they dodge and shoot their way through many levels. Be sure to look for this one in the App Store.
