Mopho DJ: An Awesome DJ App With A Difference

May 17, 2011
Nick Bryan and Ge Wang at Stanford University's Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics have developed something very interesting. It's an iOS app called Mopho DJ, and it essentially uses an iPod touch's accelerometer to create "scratch" effects on digital audio tracks. Don't worry if that doesn't quite make sense - this amazing creation really is the kind of thing you need to see, rather than read about, which is why we've embedded a video of the app in action below. As explained in the video, the iPod touch's accelerometer and gyroscope can "feel" the direction in which the device is moving. This data is sent to the computer both the app and the turntable are connected to, and the appropriate effects are applied to the audio track, live. Check out the video, and be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments.
