Apple has announced a new iMessage service via iOS 5. Like the iOS update itself, this feature will arrive this fall. With it, BlackBerry’s days as a Messenger provider could be over.
The new service brings messaging to the iPod touch and iPad for the first time. Available via Wi-Fi or 3G, iMessage will allow users to sent text, photos, videos, locations, and contacts to anyone using the service.
Most interestingly, the service will include the ability to track messages with delivery receipts and optional read receipts. You can even know when someone’s typing!
Each message is encrypted.
