Active Forecast isn’t just another native weather app replacement for your iPhone or iPod touch. As its name suggests, it’s actually designed to help ensure the weather doesn’t interfere with your outdoor activities by taking into account a variety of factors including your current location, activity window, your own daily schedule, and weather preferences.
Upon launching the app, you will want to change the weather indicators to reflect your preferred outdoor conditions. These indicators help the app determine when is the best time for you to venture outdoors. The app also examines the built-in calendar on your iDevice to determine if there are any potential scheduling conflicts for your activity.
If everything is all clear, your activity window — morning, afternoon, and evening — forecasts will be displayed with green overlays. If a weather condition is outside of your preferred range during an activity window, the forecast will feature a yellow overlay. If multiple conditions are outside of your range, you will see a red overlay, indicating that you should probably stay indoors.
The app features a wide variety of customization options, like the ability to change your activity window times, your preferred activity window, and the ability to generate forecasts for multiple locations. It also includes a color-coded seven day forecast, quality scores, sunrise and sunset, and TrainingPeaks integration.
Active Forecast was recently updated to version 2.0, allowing anyone in the world to plan their outdoor activities based on weather conditions instead of just those located in the U.S. It also added full text-based city search.
