New 1-Bit Ninja Game Hits The App Store

New 1-Bit Ninja Game Hits The App Store

June 23, 2011
We recently previewed 1-bit Ninja, a game we said offers a refreshing mix of isometric and traditional 2D gameplay. The retro platformer has finally been made available for iPhone gamers and looks like a solid offering. While 2D platformers aren't new to the iDevices, 1-bit Ninja is one of the most retro-looking ones you'll find. The game was created for old-school gamers that miss the Gameboy or Game & Watch days of handheld gaming. If you ever played the Super Mario land games on the original Gameboy, you'll know what to expect in gameplay and visuals. The ability to switch to semi-3D perspective, makes the game even better. The effects look pretty interesting for a game of this type. The Nintendo 3DS may not be the only handheld capable of visual effects, if isometric-3D takes off. The app description even mentions an unlockable red/cyan-glasses 3D mode. The controls in 1-bit Ninja have been designed to be as simple as possible with only two commands present. They are: a lower left touch to run and a lower right touch to jump. There are no virtual buttons or dpads to get in the way of the action. The app description mentions plans for an update with more levels and added content. Here is a list of the game's current features (from the app description):
  • stylized 1-bit engine mixes 2D & 3D
  • simple 2 touch control for jump-precision
  • classic head-bouncing, run + jump gameplay
  • hiscores & best times
  • save & watch replays of your best runs
  • 4 worlds, 20 levels & over 100 challenges
  • secrets & easter eggs
  • unlockable camera modes inc. red/cyan 3D
  • original chip-tune sound track
The new 1-bit Ninja is currently available for iPhone on the App Store at a price of $1.99.
