Pig Pop ($0.99) by Skillpod Media is a universal app filled with floating barnyard heads that you must “pop” in sequential order to gain points and complete levels. It may be the first of its kind, as I have never seen a game like this. Simplistic in its presentation, this game is surprisingly fun.

The game starts with a handful of floating animal heads: pigs, sheep, donkeys, and dogs which you must pop by touching their smiling faces. As their heads burst, they make their respective animal sounds (oink, bark, hee-haw etc.) and disappear from the screen. A list of animal heads appears on the right side of the screen that shows the order in which you must pop heads to gain points. If you pop out of order, you lose a life, which is displayed on the left side of the screen. Once you pop all the heads in the correct order, you have completed a level and move on to a slightly more difficult one. There are bonuses called Frenzy Pig (pop the red pig) and Freeze Pig (pop the blue pig) that help you to clear the board if things get out of hand.

For the first couple of minutes of this game, I was bored and didn’t want to play anymore, it seemed redundant and pointless. However, after level four, things started to pick up and the game got a little more exciting. As the game progressed, it became fun and challenging, and it proved itself a worthwhile game.

Overall, this game may be fairly simple, but it has real potential to be an entertaining way to spend a few hours. Don’t give up after the first few minutes or you will miss out on the excitement. It is a slow starter, but after a few levels, the game really gets going and gives you your money’s worth.
