Rumor: Sprint iPhone In "Advanced Testing"

June 9, 2011
According to a recent report, a Sprint iPhone is in "advanced testing." Furthermore, the source-fuelled article states that the handset is aesthetically similar to the current iPhone 4, hinting at the rumored "iPhone 4S" world-mode device we've already heard so much about. The news comes from 9to5Mac, who claims to have received the information from "sources." Apparently, the Sprint iPhone is currently in "advanced testing" at Apple's black labs, and is also "making the rounds amongst Sprint’s research and development department." The website also claims that a 4G version of the Sprint iPhone is planned, however the device rumored to be in "advanced testing" does not "feature support for 4G bands." Back in May we told you how the next generation iPhone could very likely hit other carriers besides AT&T and Verizon - namely, T-Mobile USA and Sprint. At the time, Jefferies & Co. analyst Peter Misek stated that:
Industry checks indicate AAPL has or is about to announce new carrier deals in time for the holidays with T-Mobile and Sprint.
In North America, Apple's iPhone is currently available with AT&T or Verizon only. However, AT&T's recent acquisition of T-Mobile USA has lead many to believe that a future iPhone will at least feature on T-Mobile's network, if not more. We'll keep you posted.
