July 1, 2011
The popular podcast management app, Instacast, has recently received a major update. Now, fans of the application can take advantage of new features such as a download waiting list, the ability to resume downloads if an Internet connection is lost, chapter lists and more. Currently, Instacast is available to download in the App Store for $1.99. As outlined in the app's release notes, here's a complete list of new features:
  • Dropped support for iOS 3
  • Added Download Waiting List
  • Added resuming downloads after connection loss
  • Added putting downloads on waiting list when switching from WiFi to 3G and 3G not enabled
  • Added chapter lists if available
  • Improved scrubbing and seeking
  • Added cloud based image scaling service
  • Added continuous playback
  • Optimized some user interface elements
  • Added Video AirPlay support to enhanced podcast player
  • Removed option for System Player
  • Added new sort options to episode lists
  • Made Replay after Pause optional
  • Added sending websites to Instapaper and ReadItLater
  • Made Auto-Cache optional for audio and video separately
  • Added Auto-Clear option when a new episode is loaded (now default)
Furthermore, the following bug fixes have been made:
  • Fixed some minor UI bugs
  • Fixed not resuming playback when unplugging headphones during a call
  • Fixed not starting a new episode in background
  • Fixed not sorting Starred and Cached after custom sort order
  • Fixed some issues with feed parsing
The main features we're glad to see in this version (1.3) of Instacast are support for AirPlay and continuous playback. It's also great to see support for Instapaper and ReadItLater, and tweaks like the new download waiting list, the ability to resume downloads if you're Internet connection crashes and chapter lists. However, the many bug fixes also mean the app is stabler than ever, too, which is great. If you're a podcast fan, take a look at the latest version of Instacast - and for more information on the app, check out our review. As mentioned, the application is currently available for $1.99.
