Treasure Hunt – The Game ($2.99) by CaraCasa Games Inc. is an adventure game that uses the iPhone/iPod touch’s internal gyroscope to let you swim around the ocean’s floor, collecting treasures for profit. Incorporating bits of seek-and-find, the Sims and business management, this game fits into a category by itself.
The first level of the game is for training. You will learn how to move forward, backward, up, down and side to side. It seems backward at first, to stop, you swipe up, to look up you tilt down, but after a few minutes, you are able to get the hang of things and move on. In the training level, you will also learn about picking up trash, or treasures, and how to keep an eye on your dive tank. Once you have completed the training course, you will go to the dive shop where you must purchase your equipment before heading off on your first open water excursion. You will get your first treasure hunt job there, as well.
The goal of the game is to pick up hidden treasures while exploring the ocean floor, but you must also be aware of how much air you have in your dive tank, or you will lose your booty because you will have to surface immediately. You must also think like a businessman by deciding what items are important for you to purchase, and which ones seem frivolous and a waste of money. All of these aspects are bundled into one great adventure game.
Overall, this iPhone/iPod touch game is massive in concept and superb in execution. It takes you into an underwater world and lets you explore unknown riches of the sea. I would love to see this game optimized for the iPad. Although $2.99 may seem a bit steep for an iPhone game considering how many of them are only $0.99, this one is worth the extra pennies for the amount of time you will enjoy playing it.
