A fantasy-based, classic game has recently hit the App Store as a universal app and it’s called: Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim. The game was originally released on the PC in 2000 and not long ago it was ported to Android. This is a fantasy-RPG, real-time strategy, and sim hybrid with gameplay that offers indirect control of units. You have to influence your people, instead of directly ordering them where to go or what to do.

“There are a lot of heroes in your lands: valiant warriors and warlike barbarians, powerful wizards and grim necromancers, industrious dwarves and skilful elves plus many more. But all of them live their own lives and decide for themselves what to do at any moment,” the app description states.

Instead, you need to reward heroes well if you want them to listen to your commands. This is an interesting take on strategy, because it will make you think about how or which units you want to influence. The game puts you in the role of the king of a small fairy tale-like kingdom with dragons and magic all around you.

Despite the indirect control of units, you can earn cash for your heroes to spend on equipment, weapons, and magical potions. They will also gain new abilities through improving their skills and talents. Here is a list of the game’s features (taken from the app description):

  • Legendary indirect control strategy totally adapted for iOS
  • 10 types of heroes with dozens of statistics, weapons and armour
  • A dozen types of monsters
  • Several dozen spells
  • 30 upgradeable building types
  • 8 scenario missions+ a bonus one
  • 3 difficulty levels
  • About 100 game achievements

If you enjoy PC games from the late 1990s and early 2000s, you should find Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim a blast. If you enjoy fantasy games with a new take on the strategy genre, also give it a try.

Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim is available on the App Store for $2.99.
