Monster Coloring Book ($2.99) by The Guys In The Booth is an adorable and imaginative coloring book that will delight children and adults alike. There are tons of fun monsters to color, patterns to add, and stickers to apply.

Opening the app will allow you to choose one of six super cute monsters to color, from a sweet little goat-like monster to a nerdy monster with three eyes and a pocket protector.

There are several brushes to color with, and they come in different shapes like stars, hearts, squares, and the standard round brush. A fill tool allows you to skip brushes altogether, and choosing a color then tapping an area on your monster will automatically color it. Of course, this isn’t as fun as coloring the page yourself.

When you first start coloring monsters, there are only nine different colors to choose from, and a few patterns and stickers. Luckily more of everything can be purchased from the Monster Store, using "monster cash." Monster cash is earned by doing things like finishing pictures and saving them, or sending them off to friends and family.

In the Monster Store, you can purchase more Monster Packs, different colors, new patterns, and additional stickers. And of course, if you don’t want to spend time earning the monster cash, you can use real cash to buy monster bucks as an in-app purchase.

I liked the Monster Coloring Book, but as an adult colorer, I found that it lacked a few things.

I would have liked to color with the brushes rather than the fill tool, but without a zoom-in option, there’s no way to color accurately within the lines. This is less of a coloring book and more of a "tapping book." I would also like to be able to resize and erase background elements, such as the monsters themselves, for a more customizable experience.

If you’re purchasing this app for a child, be aware that there will be some setup to unlock features that a young child might not be able to figure out on their own. Parental guidance is suggested, at least in the beginning, because this app does not have a child-intuitive interface.

The monster drawings are all really adorable, and worth more than the $2.99 purchase price of this app. There’s a huge variety in several different categories, so there’s plenty of content to color, and earning coins to purchase new elements to draw with turned out to be a lot of fun.

If you’re looking for a way to entertain the kids on a lazy afternoon or during a long drive, Monster Coloring Book is perfect. And who knows, you may pick it up and color a monster or two yourself.
