Smug Movies (Free) by Earljon Hidalgo is a social app for movie lovers. You can easily post ratings and reviews of movies you have watched, to Facebook, and let your friends know what you think.
When you first open the app you will be shown a list of movies that are currently playing in theaters. When you select a movie, you will see information, such as release date and what genre it belongs to. There are a synopsis, links to review sites such as Rotten Tomatoes and Movies Online, and a section for comments. You can rate the movie from here if you have already seen it. When you tap the “Rate it!” link in the upper right corner, you will be able to give the movie a star rating based on story, effects and acting. You can also add your own comment about the movie. All of this information will automatically be posted to Facebook for your friends and family to read.
This app is barebones when it comes to features. There is a decent list of movies, but not many of them are independent films. The movie information doesn’t include anything like: the director’s name or length of the film. There are trailers for each film, but no link to show times or nearby theaters. Even if they didn’t include this information from within the app, they could have at least included links to websites that offer the information, like IMDB or MovieFone.
Overall, it is a good app for immediate Facebook interaction and it is free. It could use a lot of work to build up some better features, but if you watch a lot of films and like to tell your friends your opinion of them, this app will let you do so with a few simple taps.
