The Atlantic Magazine: Digital Edition Could Change How Titles Are Sold For iDevices

Many of today's most promising magazine apps remain unpopular because they don't allow iDevice owners to try them out for free. That isn't the problem with The Atlantic’s universal app, which has just undergone a significant upgrade that could make other publishers rethink how they sell their products on iDevices.
The Atlantic Magazine: Digital Edition is a hodgepodge of sorts, offering content for subscribers and non-subscribers a like.
Freebies
For everyone, there is access to content the company also offers at TheAtlantic.com and TheAtlanticWire.com for free. In addition, content from TheAtlanticCities.com website will also be available when the site launches in September.
These free articles are beautifully arranged and look amazing in both portrait and landscape mode. Each is included in one of three main categories: Top News, Channels, or In Focus.
Naturally, Top News offers reader access to some of the top stories making news today.
For example, many of today’s stories focus on the debt negotiations wrapping up in Washington, D.C.
Channels offers content by category. These include: Politics, Business, Entertainment, Technology, National, International and Life.
Finally, Alan Taylor’s photo blog, “In Focus,” offers photo galleries on a range of topics, such as the Tragedy in Norway, the final shuttle flight, and World War II: Operation Barbarossa, to name three examples.
For The Atlantic subscribers
Current The Atlantic print subscribers gain access to everything the app has to offer, including digital versions of the magazine. Plus, new users can easily subscribe via an in-app purchase of $21.99 per year. This includes ten issues per year.
Single issues are pricey at $4.99 each.
Subscribers are also able to access content for offline viewing and have the ability to save articles to read later.
