Twitter Gets A New HTML5 Interface For iPad

August 3, 2011
Twitter is currently in the process of rollingout a brand new, HTML5 Web interface for the iPad. As you can see in the above screenshot, the Web interface looks very much like the universal Twitter iOS app, and we've also heard that it's more touchable, too. The news comes from Alexia Tsotis of TechCrunch, who notes that the new interface, which can be viewed by loading "http://twitter.com" in Safari for iOS on an iPad, should be with Twitter fans by the end of the week. According to Carolyn Penner, a Twitter representative:
The HTML5 app provides a great option for people who prefer to use the browser over native apps. Its two-column view is consistent with the Twitter experience you’re used to (on Twitter.com), and it takes advantage of touch gestures and other device capabilities.
This is definitely an improvement on Twitter's old Web interface, which still looked like the previous generation of the Twitter website, and didn't utilize the iPad's touch screen. As mentioned, Twitter's new HTML5 iPad-optimized Web interface should reach everyone by the end of the week. In the meantime, let us know if you'll bypass the app for this new Web interface in the comments.
