September 20, 2011
Here’s some smart advice to those readers that use the Skype for iPhone app: Be very careful. A new vulnerability has been uncovered that could help hackers steal personal information from your iPhone. According to Mashable, the cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability is present in the current version of Skype, 3.0.1. The vulnerability is present when using the app’s Chat capabilities. In a message to customers, Skype contends:
“We are working hard to fix this reported issue in our next planned release which we hope to roll out imminently. In the meantime we always recommend people exercise caution in only accepting friend requests from people they know and practice common sense internet security as always.”
Take a look:

Until Skype fixes this problem, we suggest not chatting with someone you don’t know. Or better yet, refrain from using the Skype chat feature altogether for the time being. We’ll keep you updated and let you know when a new version of Skype for iPhone is available for download. Note: This vulnerability is not present in Skype for iPad.
