Tiny Defense ($2.99) by Picsoft Studio is a tactical defense game that challenges your ability to strategize against the enemy, plan your defense and utilize your weapons at just the right time. Not unlike a variation on Plants vs. Zombies, the goal of this game is to stop your enemy from getting past your line of defense.

Your game starts off with just two types of “minirobots,” a green energy crystal producer and a frontline shooter. As you progress, you gain additional minirobots, like flying fighters and “freezerbots,” but you must also defend your land against more enemy “machines.” The green crystal producers will pop energy crystals out of their heads. These crystals are used to help produce enough energy to add another minirobot to the terrain. The more minirobots you can put into play, the better your chances of survival.

Once you have earned enough points from collecting metal parts (enemies drop these parts when they are destroyed) you can visit the laboratory for game upgrades. You can add more minirobot holding slots, increase your health capacity, and increase your green crystal power as well as other helpful features.

There are 40 different minirobots that all have their own special ability, as well as 32 different enemy machines that you must fight against. The game takes place across five different worlds with 150 different levels and 30 different mini games to break up the monotony of fighting wave after wave of enemy forces.

Overall, this tactical defense game is entertaining and addictive. There is nothing not to love about it. The app is a bit pricey, especially considering it is not a universal app, but it is oodles of fun and worth the money if you are a big fan of castle defense type games. The replay value is high. The upgrades, mini games and variety of minirobots add to the appeal. You can pick it up in the app store for $2.99. App Advice has a copy to give away.
