First Newsstand Apps Now In The App Store (Updated)

October 11, 2011
Big news, folks. Apple has officially begun approving apps that launch within its new iOS 5 feature, Newsstand for all of you already running iOS 5. Moments ago, updates for both Wired Magazine and GQ appeared in the App Store. Once either of these are installed, they will show up in the Newsstand folder, as expected. First unveiled in June, Newsstand is a new home on your Home screen where all of your magazine and newspaper subscriptions reside. The best part of it is that on top of making it easy to find written content, it will allow apps to download new issues automatically in the background. Until today, Newsstand sat there on an iOS 5 Home screen, empty. However, that has now changed with the first two approvals. As a reminder, Apple will finally release iOS 5 to the public sometime tomorrow in iTunes. Newsstand is available automatically once iOS 5 is installed. Note - You can now add Popular Science to the list of magazines now part of Newsstand.
