The Instacast iPhone app is arguably the best way to consume podcasts on a mobile device, and now in a recent update, the app has just been massively improved. The updated version of Instacast now synchronizes podcasts between iOS devices via iCloud, which is an incredibly handy feature.

As outlined in the app’s release notes:

  • Adds compatibility to iOS 5
  • Synchronizes via iCloud:
    • Podcast subscriptions
    • Subscription priorities
    • Played markers
    • Starred markers
    • Currently playing episode
    • Current playback position
  • Improves multiple selection for to be cached episodes
  • Improves video playback
  • Adds Now Playing info to lock screen
  • Does not auto-clear starred episodes anymore

In short, as Instacast‘s developer notes on its blog, when a user installs the app on several iOS devices, iCloud “synchronizes [the] application state with the one of the other device.” This means you can leave Instacast on your iPhone, launch it on your iPod touch and the app will behave like you never switched iOS devices.

Currently, Instacast is available to download in the App Store for $1.99. Take a look at the latest version, and be sure to share your thoughts in the comments.
