Ban.jo (Free) by Banjo is a social networking app centered around location. It connects you to different networks and aids you in discovering new things, places, and even people — all in one integrated view.
To begin, connect Ban.jo to your social networks: Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, and Gowalla. You choose how many to connect, and if you change your mind, you can always revoke access later. I had read that it supported Instagram as well, but I don’t see that as an option. However, to be fair, it doesn’t say it in the app description.
You can filter content based on your location and interests. You can find new friends near you, catch up with old ones, and even find out about new places and things to do you otherwise wouldn’t be aware of. In fact, you can even discover new people around you to follow on social networks, or just in Ban.jo.
Instead of just finding out what’s going on around you, if you are interested in what’s going on in a certain area — say, back home while you’re on vacation — you can type in a different location and see what others are doing and saying there. The options are endless.
Speaking of traveling, this app is definitely a useful tool to those who do so often. When unfamiliar with a city or place, it’s nice to be able to find interesting things to do and see — given that you trust the advice of those around you.
Chat with other Ban.jo users, or check-in and tweet, right from within the app. You can even follow those new people you find without having to leave the app. This is essentially the selling point of the app: you don’t have to fool with multiple apps to explore your social communities.
I was impressed with the intuitive interface and slick design. This app has a lot to offer, and I hope they’ll integrate even more networks in future updates.
Whether you want the ability to view all of your social network activity in one app, or you want to find out what’s going on in your city, Ban.jo has you covered.
Ban.jo is available for the iPhone in the App Store for free.
