Carniworm ($0.99) by Pekka Vilpponen is a clone of the classic game of Snake, where you control the head of a snake that grows as it eats. Here, we have an earthworm that comes out of the ground to eat birds and their eggs.

Movement is by tilt and feels a bit awkward at first. The worm's head does not just move in the direction you tilt your iPhone. Instead, tilting to the right will always move the worm's head to the right of its body. The same is true for tilting left.

This makes movement feel a bit confusing when the worm's head is upside down. It would have felt a lot more comfortable for the head to just directly follow the iPhone's tilt.

As you move the worm around, you'll have to aim for the eggs that suddenly appear. Eating them will get you points as well as grow your worm's length. If you take too long, the eggs will hatch a bird, which will fly away.

Birds will sometimes fly down from above and crash land somewhere on the screen. Gobbling them up will earn you extra points.

You can move through the edges of the screen, but not through the worm's own body. This is a game of survival; play for as long as you can to create new high scores.

Despite its initial awkwardness, Carniworm quickly becomes very engrossing. You'll have great fun trying to navigate the screen as your worm's body takes up ever more space.
