Chicken Rescue ($0.99) by Ayopa Games LLC is a universal arcade game that has you collecting flowers, finding lost chicks and avoiding barrels to collect coins. Gather enough coins and you will be able to unlock clever chicken-based characters, like Chicken Zombie. This game is on sale for half off for a limited time.
Mama chicken is on a mission to find her chicks and bring them back to the coop. Along the way, she will collect flowers, coins and apples to increase her point score. Flowers are scattered about on the ground, while coins and apples are hidden inside bushes, or fall from trees that Mama chicken bounces into. Watch out for cactuses and pigs, though. Not everything on the floating farm is easy to be around.
As coins are accrued, they can be used to upgrade the chicken, or even unlock new skins. Upgrades are most important though; they help increase your chances of finding coins or health. Achievements can also be unlocked with upgrades. For example, the achievement, “Health Nut” is unlocked when all health upgrades are purchased. Additional coins can be bought with in-app purchases. All chicken skins can also be purchased for $1.99 if you don’t want to do the work of collecting coins.
The game utilizes tilt controls to maneuver Mama chicken around the floating farm. However, if you are playing this game on your iPad and don’t want to worry about holding your tablet for an hour, you can select joystick controls instead. Mama chicken is a wild runner though, and it is hard to control her with the joystick controls. This is especially tough when you get to the levels where there are no sides to protect her from falling off the edge of the floating farm.
Overall, this universal game is cute and clever. It is a great pick-up-and-play casual game that will keep you entertained for hours. The replay value is high because, as Mama chicken is upgraded, levels can be replayed for extra points and more coins that were not accessible before the upgrade. At only $0.99, this game is sure to be a big hit in the App Store, but even at the regular price of $1.99, it is worth it.
