Whale Trail Update Adds Brand New Challenge Pack And Power-Ups

February 16, 2012
Whale Trail, the colorful casual game about a cute whale who gains flight by collecting rainbow bubbles in his attempt to escape from a giant tentacled monster, has just been updated with more psychedelic goodness. The previous iTunes Game of the Week title holder now offers progress-sharing across all your iOS devices plus more enhancements in gameplay and even more hours of entertainment. Version 1.2 of Whale Trail introduces Cloud Mines and Blubble Magnets, two new power-ups that you can earn to give Willow the whale more chances of fleeing the evil Baron von Barry in the game’s classic endless mode. Cloud Mines help Willow by smashing adjacent Thunder Bros while Blubble Magnets add fuel to Willow’s flight by collecting nearby Blubbles. For the uninitiated, Thunder Bros are dark clouds that electrocute and weaken Willow upon contact, while Blubbles are rainbow-colored bubbles that form Willow’s trail and sustain his aerial odyssey. Cloud Mines and Blubble Magnets are also part of the brand new challenge pack called Baron’s Revenge. Baron’s Revenge is so named because it is set in the grim kingdom of the Thunder Bros, as opposed to the bright surroundings of Rainbow Land as seen in the classic endless mode and in the old Willow’s Playground challenge pack. Like Willow’s Playground, Baron’s Revenge has 32 levels, each of which awards a maximum of three stars depending on your final score. But to be able to start playing Baron’s Revenge, you must first unlock level 21 of Willow’s Playground. Not surprisingly, the new pack also brings with it a new set of achievements to unlock. The update also sees Whale Trail taking a page out of Temple Run’s book. If you’re on Twitter, you would’ve been inundated by now with tweets saying, “I got 123,456 points while escaping from demon monkeys in Temple Run. Beat that!” Now that Whale Trail has added support for sharing scores via Twitter, prepare to see hundreds of “I scored 123,456 points flying high in the psychedelic sky of @WhaleTrail. Beat my score” tweets in your timeline. Designed for both iPhone and iPad, Whale Trail is a little game with great graphics, trippy music, and simple one-touch control. It’s both charming and challenging, and the new update certainly adds more charm and challenge to it. Whale Trail is available in the App Store for only $0.99, and the update is, of course, free.
