Mother Lode Will Bring Board Games Back To Your iPad

March 20, 2012
While gorgeous looking action adventure titles such as Infinity Blade II and Sky Gamblers: Air Supremacy are making a huge impact on mobile gaming at the moment, there is still a place for more traditional gaming. Or so Order of Magnitude Games is hoping, as they release their latest title, Mother Lode ($0.99) for the iPad. Mother Lode is a space themed strategy board game "for the whole family." Two to four players control miners on a dying planet. The aim is to be the first to escape the planet, taking with you the biggest haul of ore. While playing Mother Lode you have to make a decision whether to risk staying on the planet a little longer to increase your ore stockpile or to take what you have and run as soon as possible. You also have to decide if you want to spend your turn furthering your goals or making life difficult for your opponents. Mother Lode features (from the app description):
  • Support for two to four human or computer controlled players
  • Each planet tile reveals one of 14 possible actions
  • Strategic thinking and adaptability required to maximize your score
  • Opponent miner values are hidden until the end of the game
  • Three creature types are out to thwart you
  • Fly escape pods, create wormholes, mine the planet, and escape before the planet explodes!
Mother Lode is, currently at least, only available for the iPad and unfortunately isn't Retina ready, however, Order of Magnitude Games advise that this is in the works and will be available very soon, so don't let this put you off! How do you feel about Mother Lode? Do you think "board games" have what it takes to compete with epic titles like Infinity Blade II and its peers?
