Sega Bringing Their New MMO To iOS?
I am a big fan of MMOs, having played World of Warcraft for many years, and working my way around many others. Having only an iMac at home, my choice of games is reasonably limited, so I'm always on the lookout for more convenient options. MMOs for the iOS platform are in reasonably short supply, the biggest being Order and Chaos Online from Gameloft. I tried it, but it didn't really capture my imagination. When I heard the news that Sega was going to be throwing their hat into the iOS MMO ring I couldn't help but get my hopes up. Sega is currently working on a new free to play MMO, Phantasy Star Online 2. This MMO is planned for release on both PC and the PS Vita. News has emerged, however, that Phantasy Star Online 2 will also be making the move to iOS. If you are not familiar with Phantasy Star Online 2, please see the trailer below. This is, unfortunately, the trailer for the PS Vita version, so don't get too excited! If you can't see the embedded video above, please click here. The title is slated for a "winter 2012" release across all platforms, according to Andriasang. While this sounds like an interesting prospect, you may have to keep your excitement in check. Sega has announced that the iOS version of the game will be trimmed down and simpler, featuring "social game elements." Full details of what the iOS version may (or may not) include are very limited. We also don't know if we'll even see the title launch outside of Japan, but I'm still excited about what this game may mean for iOS based MMOs. Keep an eye out on AppAdvice for the latest news on the project.
