Centrifeud ($1.99) by Secret Library is an entertaining multiplayer game for the iPad that doesn’t require intricate gaming understanding or technological know-how. Grab your grandma and your five-year-old nephew and see who has the fastest reflexes.

This game is specifically designed for two to four players. The goal is to grab the purple hexagon before your opponents do. Be the first to earn 13 points to win the game. Control a fast-moving disc to block your adversaries, grab power-ups and bounce off walls to be the first to the hexagon.

Players start by touching and holding the color of disc they want to use in the game. Once at least two players have entered the battle, the game begins. When the selected color panel is touched, the disc moves forward in a straight line. Lift your finger off of the panel to stop the disc. It will start to spin, changing the direction that it will go when you touch the panel again. Use directional changes and wall-ricochets to move across the screen and try to grab the hexagon.

Once the hexagon has been collected, another one immediately shows up in a different spot and the player that grabbed it gets a point. Every 10 or 20 seconds, a power-up will appear that will either help or hinder a player’s abilities. When one appears, players must tap their own disc. The first to touch their disc benefits from the power-up while others are restricted in one way or another. For example, one power-up will make all other players move slowly across the board for a few seconds.

This game is very easy to play. Even if you didn’t take advantage of the movement control and power-ups, you could still play a competitive game against another person. The minimalistic design and gameplay makes it fun for players of all ages. The price tag is just a tick too high. I’d like to see it at half the price. However, it is worth $1.99 just the same. It is a great tabletop party game for grown ups, as well as a device to keep kids occupied at the dentist’s office.
