Go Monkey Rescue HD ($0.99) by SadieDevTeam is a freefalling iPad game of catch where you must rescue plummeting monkeys by outfitting them with a parachute before they hit the ground. Who keeps throwing monkeys out of the trees, anyway?
Things start out slowly in this game. The first 20 or so monkeys that fall from the sky are dropped far enough apart to give you ample time to tap them. When they are tapped, a parachute appears and they glide gently to the ground. After you’ve rescued about 30 monkeys, the challenge begins. They drop faster and more often, making it nearly impossible to stop all of them from falling to their doom.
Once a monkey gets a parachute, he is not completely out of the woods. If you accidently tap him again, he loses his safety net and plummets to his death. Why would anyone tap the monkey a second time, you ask? Well, when 20 primates are dropping from the sky, all at the same time, you tend to accidentally tap a few while trying to save them. It gets pretty chaotic.
It is easy to figure out, but pretty much impossible to play about 30 seconds after you’ve started. It can become addictive as you try again and again to beat your meager high score. Even though it is fun to play, I wish there was just a bit more of a learning curve. The increase in difficulty jumps from easy to hard with no chance to catch up.
This rapid tap game is definitely entertaining. It is reasonably priced at $0.99. Unfortunately, it becomes extremely difficult less than a minute after you’ve started playing. Because of the challenge, many fans of fast-paced arcade games will love Go Monkey Rescue HD, but the same thing that makes it great also makes it frustrating.
