Apple: MobileMe Customers Can Keep Their Email

May 14, 2012
With Apple officially closing the MobileMe service on June 30, many of our readers might be worried about losing their me.com email accounts. In two words: don’t worry. According to a new posting on Apple’s MobileMe site, those users unable to upgrade to iCloud, can still keep their legacy emails, according to news first posted by MacWorld. However, to do so, they will have to visit Apple’s me.com/move website and select the option to keep using MobileMe email. The message states:
What if I just want to keep using my email on all my devices? As of May 1, you can choose to keep using your mail after MobileMe ends, even on devices that don’t meet the iCloud system requirements. Just go to me.com/move and select the option to keep using your email after MobileMe ends. Once you have completed this short process, your mail will continue to work on devices that don’t meet the iCloud requirements after MobileMe ends on June 30th, 2012.
First announced in June, iCloud offers customers backup and restore for iOS devices, Find My iPhone, Photo Stream, Back to My Mac, and the ability to use iTunes Match, among other goodies. The service, which is free, requires OS X Lion or later. In other words, those folks using OS X Snow Leopard or an earlier version of Apple's Mac operating system won’t be able to use the new service. Thankfully, they can keep their email.
