Come On Down! Draw Something Game Show Coming Soon To Primetime TV

June 17, 2012
Having occupied millions of iPhone and iPad screens, Draw Something is coming soon to millions of much bigger screens. Television screens, that is. Variety reports that plans are underway to adapt the popular mobile game into a game show to be aired on primetime TV. The pilot of the proposed show is set to be handled by CBS, which outbid other networks for the project. Sony Pictures Television, Ryan Seacrest Productions, and Embassy Row are attached to produce. According to Variety, the game show will have both celebrities and everyday users as players. It's not yet known how the Draw Something app itself will be integrated into the show, but players will nonetheless draw and guess in front of a studio audience. Viewers at home will also have the chance to participate and win prizes, presumably using second-screen apps. An asynchronous online guessing word game, Draw Something was launched on iOS last February. It topped 30 million downloads after just five weeks, whereupon it was acquired by Zynga to the tune of $200 million. Since then, though, the game's daily user count has been dwindling. Little wonder, then, that Zynga is turning to television — a vastly accessible platform if I ever saw or heard one — to promote the game. Draw Something is available in the App Store for $2.99. A free, ad-supported version of the game may be downloaded as well. Given that such game shows as "Pictionary" and "Win, Lose or Draw" have been aired in the past, do you think Draw Something will be able to draw lots of viewers? Source: Variety Via: TechCrunch
