In its first update since being released earlier this year, the bill splitting app Billr has brought a highly requested feature to version 1.1.

Now with the app, users can split the cost of a single item between multiple people. For example, the cost of a shared bottle of wine or appetizer can be split between everyone at the table.

The app solves an always difficult problem when dinning with family or friends at a restaurant – who owes how much? Instead of actually having to use math to figure the answer out (thank goodness) you can simply fire up the app.

First, you input your party size, up to 16 people. The next step is to enter each item that was purchased by the members. After the items are entered, tax and tip are calculated, and the results are shown for what each person owes. The results can also be sent to the group members via email or text message.

Originally released in February, our own Christine Chan said in her review that the app is delightful to use and is quick and easy. The only downside Christine saw was that the app didn’t have the ability to add a quarter percent of sales tax, which is definitely inconvenient for people like me who deal with an 8.25 percent tax.

Billr is designed for the iPhone and iPod touch but does work on the iPad. It can be purchased in the App Store for $0.99.
