Don't Buy Any Property In This Fake Monopoly Game

July 22, 2012
After reporting a pair of Saturday Scams (Hey, that sounds like it could make a neat new AppAdvice feature!), I figured we might as well go for the trifecta. A month ago, reader Mattías C. contacted Apple about a fraudulent title called iMonopoly. The app's got several fake ratings and a bunch of angry, one-star reviews, and it even uses screenshots from EA's legitimate Monopoly for iPad. Unfortunately, the Cupertino company has yet to drop the banhammer on its developer, Top Publishing (who also makes a fake "Smurfs" game), and without constant customer backlash, it probably never will. Luckily, it's not all bad, as iMonopoly is currently free. So, while Top Publisher is still being allowed to pass Go, they're no longer collecting that two (hundred) dollars. All things considered, though, I'd rather see 'em go to jail.
