Better sharpen your steering skills because a new great-looking Wipeout-esque racer has just zoomed toward iOS.
Made by Palzoun and SpinVector, AXL: Full Boost is a futuristic racing game featuring cars called “shifters.” How the shifters came to be makes for quite an interesting narrative, which effectively serves as the game’s backstory.
In the not-so-distant future, rich corporations, having succeeded in reconverting energy sources, have developed Hex energy. Subsequently, they’ve managed to manufacture Hex-powered shape-changing vehicles known as shifters. A lot of shifters are produced for racing events, one of which is the prestigious AXL Division.
Now, you’ve been tapped to compete in the AXL Division. As it happens, you’re supposedly responsible for the death of more than 50 people in a tragic incident. Backed by a corporate sponsor, you’re eager to rebuild your reputation through your participation in AXL.
So, obviously, it’s really important that you win, since your name is practically at stake. But don’t let that get in the way of your having fun! After all, this is an awesome-sounding race we’re talking about.

To whet your appetite, let me give you a rundown of AXL: Full Boost’s figures:
- 71 races in career mode (Starcade)
- 3 game modes (Starcade, Free Run, Custom Race)
- 16 tracks
- 7 locations
- 12 shape-changing shifters (racing vehicles)
On top of those are the game’s impressive graphics, which boast a high level of polish, and challenging gameplay, which has you economizing on Hex orbs.
Regrettably, though, AXL: Full Boost appears to be lacking Retina display support. Also, the controls are mostly tilt-based, with no option to enable primarily touch-based controls instead. And finally, the game, which is available now in the App Store for $2.99, is currently compatible with iPhone only.
Nevertheless, AXL: Full Boost is one exciting racing game that’s full of potential.
