Belonging as it is to the crowded side-scrolling endless runner genre, Blot manages to be unique with its hand-drawn graphics and amusing gameplay enhancements.
Blot is an entertaining casual game about a blot of ink flying through a seemingly infinite expanse of paper. With the game’s simple one-touch control, you’re tasked to prolong the blot’s flight by mainly avoiding the sharp pencils and pushpins along the way. Also, you can bump into “boost buddies” and “power-up paint cans” to give the blot more than a blot of a chance at survival.
As in most endless runners, there are coins galore to collect in Blot. Coins may be used in purchasing tools and outfits, the selection of which has been augmented with the game’s latest update.
The new version of Blot introduces a brand new tool as well as a tool belt for the titular fellow. The tool belt allows up to three tools to be equipped at once. I’ve done the math and figured out that that’s one more than the number of gadgets that can activated at any time in Jetpack Joyride.
The update also brings eight new outfits to the game. These include a new outfit patterned after Paul Revere, which arrives just in time for Fourth of July.
But Blot is not one to celebrate America’s independence with a mere Paul Revere-inspired wardrobe change, is it? Actually, the main attraction of the update is a brand new challenge mode that recreates, very loosely, the famous patriot’s journey from Boston to Concord.
Optimized for both iPhone and iPad, Blot is available in the App Store for free. Download or update the game now and prepare to revel in its hand-drawn fireworks.
