Route, one of the most popular third party navigation apps, has received a significant update. Route 1.4 includes a number of new features most important to frequent users and for businesses such as couriers and delivery people.

First launched in April, the universal app runs on the iPhone/iPod touch and Wi-Fi-enabled iPads. Its main function is to calculate the shortest route around town to save you time, and money on gas. In doing so, Route includes the ability to search for businesses, add addresses from your contacts, and add your current location as a destination. Each map may be shared through email or via printing, and supports up to 100 destinations per route.

New features include:

  • Added ability to add previous destinations
  • Added favorite destinations
  • Added ability to add multiple addresses simultaneously
  • Added new help views
  • Fixed various bugs
  • Minor UI tweaks

Future app enhances include support for syncing between multiple devices via iCloud, and full integration with maps and navigation which are part of iOS 6.
