This Could Be The Year Of The iOlympics

July 19, 2012
Velti, a leading provider of mobile marketing and advertising technology, announced the results of a nationwide poll showing that 40 percent of those that plan to follow the Olympics this year, will do so using one or more mobile devices. According to the study, 35 percent of U.S. adults will use their iPad or other tablet device for news and coverage of the London games, while 27 percent plan on using their smartphone. Among smartphone users, 77 percent will tune in using a mobile browser, while 63 percent will use an app. Among tablet users, 80 percent will use a mobile browser versus 58 percent who will utilize apps. According to Krishna Subramanian, chief marketing officer of Velti:
This survey reveals that a significant number of Americans are choosing to consume Olympic content on the go, and while doing so they’re overwhelmingly turning to mobile browsers.
The study was commissioned by Velti and conducted online by Harris Interactive in June among 2,088 U.S. adults. These numbers shouldn't come as a suprise, especially since this is the first year all 32 Olympic events will be streamed via the Web and through the free NBC Olympics Live Extra app. With this in mind, please check our previous stories on the Olympic Games and how they relate to iOS.
