AppAdvice Game Of The Week For August 10, 2012
Every week, our staff will handpick a game from the past two weeks that we believe is a must-download for your iPhone or iPad. These games will always be from a wide variety of genres, but they are chosen because our own staff members love it and can’t quite put it down. So here are this week’s picks! Enjoy, and happy gaming!
Agent Dash[caption id="attachment_328531" align="aligncenter" width="225"] See what it's like to be a secret agent with our Game of the Week![/caption]
Our top game pick this week is Agent Dash, the new endless runner from Full Fat.
Rather than run in an exotic temple, though, you’ll find yourself as a suave spy in Agent Dash. This agent will be running to (or from) the bad guys. Of course, there will be obstacles that stand in the way of your freedom or goal, such as toxic waste, falling trees, lasers, and much more. The scenery will change after a certain amount of time, so it feels like you’re actually making progress.
Swipe to move left and right, jump, and slide. You can even tap to shoot your weapon. The controls actually feel very similar to Subway Surfers, rather than Temple Run.
Along the track will be gems that you will want to collect. These will serve as the game’s currency, and you can use them in the shop to purchase various “gadgets,” such as the jetpack that propels the agent forward in quick bursts, or the magnet that pulls in nearby gems. These will help you out on the course and can go a long way. Additionally, there are also single-use power-ups like Air Drop and Slow-Mo. There are also 10 other agents that you can unlock if you want some variety.
While gems are always scattered in the game, it will cost a lot if you want to max out the gadgets and get all the agents. Since the game is free, there will be in-app purchases to obtain more gems to spend.
Despite that, the game is still fun and it doesn’t feel like you need to spend any money to really enjoy it. Agent Dash is free and definitely worth a download. We’ve been playing it at AppAdvice HQ lately and highly recommend it!

Commando Jack[caption id="attachment_328529" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Save the world from incoming aliens with Commando Jack, a new twist on tower defense.[/caption]
Tower defense games are a whole lot of fun, aren’t they? This week, our second game pick is Commando Jack, a tower defense that spans the entire world.
In this game, you are given a simple goal: save the world, one country at a time. But what are you protecting the world from? Aliens, of course! You’ll start in London and will make your way across the globe. Just like other tower defense games, you will place gun turrets in strategic spots to stop incoming waves of enemies.
But what makes this game different from the rest? It integrates first-person shooter (FPS) tactics for extra ammunition. Once you have a strong defense set up, just hop in a turret and fire away! Doing this can even get through the strongest armor. It’s a nice twist to the typical tower defense fare.
With each defeated alien, players will get some cash. This can be used for weapon upgrades, new guns, and single-use power-ups. These will all be expensive, but fortunately, the developers made it so that you can get cash for every game you play, even if it’s a loss. There are also in-app purchases.
We’re loving Commando Jack at AppAdvice, and we’re sure you will too, especially if you’re a fan of tower defense.
