Tales from the Dragon Mountain: the Strix HD (Free) by G5 Entertainment is a mystery puzzle game, a genre that the developer knows well. If you’re a fan of hidden object puzzle games, you can always count on G5 to have the exact gameplay that you’re looking for.
Tales from the Dragon Mountain: The Strix features a magical medallion retrieved from a dead grandmother, and an old house that the main character feels drawn to. There’s also an elf, forest sprites, a mystery task to complete, and plenty of unique places to explore.
This game is designed for players of all skill levels, from beginner to advanced. That means kids and adults alike will be able to play this game, thanks to three different skill levels.
In easy mode, there’s a faster hint recharge, sparkling hints, a faster skip puzzle recharge, and a find items panel. Harder skill levels remove some of these options, so you can breeze through the game or give yourself more of a challenge.
This is primarily a puzzle game, and players will be required to hunt down objects and use them to interact with the environment. For example, you will need to pick up and store objects in your inventory for later use. One of the first puzzles will have you locate a key to open a locked door.
To use the items in your inventory, you tap them (such as the key) and then tap on the item in the environment that you want to interact with (the door). If the two items go together, you will be able to progress to the next puzzle. Otherwise, you will have to try again until you figure out what to do next. The game will tell you if two items cannot be used together.
You can also combine items in your inventory in the same way, tapping on one and then tapping on another. You will do this often during the game. Navigating through the game and combining objects this way is simple and logical, so there are no glaring control issues.
Some of these mystery puzzle games are quite difficult, but I would say that this one ranges on the easier side. It’s never too difficult to find what you are looking for, though you can adjust the difficulty at the beginning of the game if you want more of a challenge.
If you do get stuck, there’s an extensive hint system that will tell you where to go, what to find, and what to do with it, so you’ll never get to a point where you can’t move on.
In addition to solving puzzles and finding items, you will also complete several mini games. Mini games in The Strix are challenging, but not so challenging that you end up frustrated and unable to complete them. They also start out easy and ramp up in difficulty.
Graphically, this is a well designed game with crisp, clean graphics that look great on the third generation iPad, and story wise, it’s entertaining, engrossing, and fun to play.
If you are a fan of mystery puzzle games, you will definitely want to download Tales from Dragon Mountain – The Strix. It’s one of the best hidden object games that I’ve played in quite some time, thanks to a wide variety of puzzles, hidden object scenes, and mini games.
