Available when the iPad launched, Weather HD is one of the longest standing and most iconic world clock and nightstand weather app for iOS. Since that time, Vimov has most definitely made enhancements to the app, but nothing as significant as the new features and design of v2.0. Weather HD 2 is much more useful, although, longtime users feel the new capabilities compromise the app’s beauty. Weather HD v2.0.1 hopes to appease those specific fans by returning some of the classic design.
Before v2.0, the Weather HD user interface consisted of an elegant view of soaring through clouds or a gorgeous landscape to represent the current weather conditions along with the local time. If so desired, a user could have the forecast and additional details displayed as well.
Weather HD 2 still includes that primary feature, but also offers the Quickview multi-location mode, the MultiForecast multiple weather source mode, weather maps in a unique 3-D form, and social network integration. Indeed, these features are handy, however, the additional buttons and toolbar do significantly obstruct the stunning background animation.
Therefore, Vimov has released Weather HD Free v2.0.1 with optional Classic weather view mode, classic clock view, and even some of the previous animations. Once enabled in Settings, Classic mode can be activated with a simple downward swipe and reactivated by swiping upward. When Classic mode is active, the Quickview, Weather, and Maps toolbar, as well as the location search and social network buttons are all hidden away.
Even though Classic mode is currently restricted to Weather HD Free, we expect the full version to gain the option in the not too distant future.
Weather HD 2 Free is a universal app compatible with iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch running iOS 4.3 or later. Weather HD 2 is a universal app compatible with iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch running iOS 4.3 or later, and available in the App Store for $0.99.
