SwipeType: A Shortcut-Powered Notes App, No Jailbreak Required

August 18, 2012
Almost one year ago now, we told you about KBShortcuts. This clever, impressive jailbreak tweak added a slew of essential, easy to access shortcuts to the built in Notes app. Now, users who don't have a jailbroken iDevice can access similar features in a new third-party application called SwipeType, which recently appeared in the App Store. As outlined in the app's release notes:
SwipeType adds text editing shortcuts to the keyboard. Simply swipe your finger on the keyboard from the space key to specific keys to select text, cut, copy, paste, undo, redo, scroll to the start or end & much more!
Features include:
  • Email, Tweet, Post to Facebook and Post to Pastie with a tap of a button
  • Beautifully designed UI With Retina Display Support
  • Look Up Text on the Web directly With The in-built Web Browser
  • Enable or Disable Auto Correction
  • Fast application switching and backgrounding
  • Live Character Counter
  • Over 150 custom fonts
  • More Than 15 Font Colors
  • Auto Saves Text always
  • Define Words With the tap of a button
Plus, in a future update the application's developer has promised to add iCloud and Dropbox support, and a "Manageable Documents Library." If you're not a jailbreaker but want to find an app that offers the same functionality KBShortcuts does, consider downloading SwipeType. Currently, the application is available to download for just $0.99 in the App Store. Images: iDownloadBlog
