One of our favorite platformers here at AppAdvice is about to get spookier. According to TouchArcade, developer BeaverTap Games has been working on a stand-alone Halloween version of Mikey Shorts that should (obviously) be released sometime this month for free.

The new game will feature four new levels, two Halloween-themed environments, and 12 fun Halloween disguises. Since the original game used the maximum amount of Game Center leaderboards, the decision was made to create a separate version. Mikey Shorts Halloween will be a universal app and also feature support for the widescreen of the iPhone 5.

The original version of Mikey Shorts was released in August and quickly turned into a must-play title for us. With a decidedly fun retro feel, the app sees players run, jump, and grab coins as fast as possible. Along with a comprehensive story mode, the app also features a seriously brutal challenge mode that forces players to complete a level before the timer runs out.

After giving the app a great review, we also handed Mikey Shorts our well-deserved AppAdvice Game of the Week title.

And just last month, the title was updated with 12 new challenge modes and 24 new disguises to purchase. The update also added support for the iCade and Joypad.

To help bring the fun to more players, a free version of the game was also released with the updated title. Mikey Shorts Lite contains the first four story mode levels of the game.

Both titles are universal apps for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad. Mikey Shorts is $0.99 and Mikey Shorts Lite is free in the App Store.

Mikey Shorts Halloween has already been submitted for approval, so it should be hitting the App Store soon. I can’t wait.
