Capture Close Up Shots Of Your World With The Easy-Macro Cell Lens Band

November 8, 2012
My last Snap Spot post was focused on the super handy Bobine stand and charger cable from Photojojo, and this week, I have yet another great iPhone accessory for you - the Easy-Macro Cell Lens Band.

The Easy-Macro Band is a thin blue rubber band that has a macro lens in the middle. It fits squarely over the iPhone’s back camera, allowing you to take fantastic macro shots. Personally, I’m obsessed with macro photography, especially on my iPhone, so when I heard about this product I knew I had to try it out and share it with you. It has a 4x magnification and it works well with most cases.

The band comes attached to a credit card sized piece of plastic, which is how you store it when you’re not using it. It fits right over the card, which then goes inside your wallet. This set up is far more convenient than any of the other iPhone macro lenses that I own, because I can take it out and slip it on in thirty seconds.

If you take a lot of macro shots, you can also wear the band around your wrist for even quicker access. Easy-Macro’s lens works well. It takes sharp, close up photos of objects, but there’s one small caveat - you have to get the iPhone and the lens within just a few centimeters of your target subject. For example, when I took a photo of a flower, my phone needed to be right up in the petals in order to get a clear shot. It also takes a bit of experimentation to get the angle and the distance right, so this is a product that’s best for planned out shots rather than a spur of the moment snap of the spider that just ran by you.

As you can see, I was able to get some impressive shots using this lens. I thought that it worked great for my obligatory cat picture, and tiny flowers turned out amazing.

Small objects looked fantastic, but the lens worked nicely for larger objects as well. Though I couldn’t get an entire full-sized flower in the picture, I was able to capture a compelling portion of the stamen.

Do you want to know the best part about the Easy-Macro Band? It’s cheap. At just $15, it’s well worth the cost if you want to take macro shots to make all your Instagram friends jealous. You can get the Easy Macro band from the Easy-Macro website, or from Photojojo. The band works with all iPhones, including the 4, 4S, and 5. I also wanted to let you guys know that another product I reviewed, the Holga iPhone Case, is now available for the iPhone 5. With this case, you can use the wheel of filters to take an array of fun photos. Make sure to read my original review to see some examples, and if you’re interested, you can grab this for just $29.99 on the Holga Direct website. Want even more Snap Spot?
