One of those just for fun photo apps, KaleidaCam turns your iDevice into a kaleidoscope. This niche entertainment app has been in the App Store for nearly a year-and-a-half, but now jumps back with its first major update. Released earlier this week, KaleidaCam v2.0 adds iPhone 5 and iOS 6 support, contains new effects and a revamped user interface, and includes significant performance improvements.

During the expansion of the UI to fit the 4-inch Retina display, Dapper Owl decided to revise the layout of KaleidaCam. In the latest control scheme, the effects, or styles, and shutter buttons remain at the bottom, but settings and options are now located in a top toolbar. These new quick access options consist of image ratio, input type, and camera.

Whether you choose to utilize the live video processing or import an image, there’s access to four free styles and an add-on pack. As before, you can swirl a single finger on the screen to spin the kaleidoscope and perform a two finger pinch or expand gesture to zoom.

Even though the idea is to play around using the real-time effects, KaleidaCam is still a camera app. Therefore, if you happen to create a really spectacular image, capture and share it with friends.

KaleidaCam is designed for iPhone, fourth and fifth generation iPod touch running iOS 5.0 or later, and available in the App Store for the limited time sale price of $0.99.
