Just in time for the holidays, NerdWallet has announced the immediate availability of a new travel recommendation site and companion iOS app. TravelNerds’Airport Guide seeks to tackle one of the stress factors long associated with traveling – getting through a busy airport.
Available for free, the universal app covers 50 of the heaviest traveled airports around the world, with more locations coming soon. Each listing includes terminal maps, ground transportation information, and a restaurant guide, among other goodies.
Other features include:
- Over 200 detailed airport terminal maps
- Wi-Fi availability and pricing for each airport
- Customized directions to popular destinations for 20 airports (e.g., SFO to Union Square or JFK to Manhattan)
- Airport restaurant, shop and lounge hours and locations
- Airport parking options and prices
- Nurseries and other family-friendly amenities
According to Alicia Jao, vice president of travel media, NerdWallet:
As frequent travelers ourselves, we understand that air travel is more than just the flight. Getting to and from the airport and navigating the terminal can be time-consuming and expensive. With these challenges in mind, we created an easily accessible resource to help consumers make informed travel decisions
We’ve been using a prerelease version of TravelNerds’ Airport Guide for a while now and found it to be absolutely wonderful — at least on the iPhone.
Although the information contained on the iPad is exactly the same, the presentation here is lacking. In particular, the stretched airport maps on the tablet seem as if they were simply added in a last-ditch effort to beat a deadline. Hopefully, a future app update will correct this very obvious flaw.
Nonetheless, for iPhone customers in particular, we consider TravelNerds’Airport Guide one of the must-have apps for the holiday travel season. The Web version is also very nice.

TravelNerds’Airport Guide is available for download in the App Store.
