Is that a zoo in your pocket or … Wait, if you’re running Pocket Zoo on your iPhone, then it is a zoo in your pocket.

As stated in the app’s App Store description, Pocket Zoo lets you “discover a great big zoo … in your teeny tiny pocket.”

Pocket Zoo gives you access to a virtual menagerie of real animals. You can view a map of the animals featured in the app or you can simply view a list of the same.

Whichever viewing mode you go for, you’re free to select any of the featured animals to see the photos, videos, and interesting facts about your selection. What’s more, if your chosen animal is of the noisy sort, you can listen to the sounds it makes right within the app.

But no doubt the foremost selling point of Pocket Zoo is the one feature that is included in the app’s full name in the App Store: Pocket Zoo with Live Animal Cams. That’s right: with Pocket Zoo, you can view live camera feeds showing animals in zoos from around the world.

Released a couple of years ago, Pocket Zoo was recently updated with the following changes courtesy of the app’s developer, Tiny Hearts:

  • Added iOS 6 and iPhone 5 support which means your favorite zoo just got a little bigger and more beautiful!
  • Updated free wallpapers for iPhone 5
  • Added iOS Twitter integration
  • And best of all … we’ve added 50 more great animal videos for you to enjoy!

Recently featured in AppsGoneFree, Pocket Zoo for iPhone is now back to its regular price of $0.99 in the App Store. Its iPad version, Pocket Zoo HD, is also available in the App Store for a dollar more.
