CES 2013: Double Your Battery Life With The uNu iPhone 5 Battery Case

January 12, 2013
Although smartphones have improved our lives in many ways, they're still far from matching what feature phones could offer in terms of battery life. To help solve the problem, a few companies have started selling iPhone cases with extended batteries. At this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES), we spoke to the creators of some of the most popular battery cases, uNu. They talked us through some of the new cases they were working on. Check out the video below of AppAdvice’s Dom Esposito talking with Jason from the uNu booth. If you are having trouble seeing the video, click here for a direct link to it on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ABdvIK_pvI The first case mentioned is the uNu DX Protective Battery Case for iPhone 5. It essentially doubles your talk time and means most iPhones could last for two days on one charge. While that's still far from what feature phones can manage, it's a significant improvement and would come in handy in many situations. The great thing about this case in particular is how little bulk it adds. It's 15mm thick and, in my opinion, actually looks quite good. Learn more about the uNu DX iPhone 5 case here. The other case discussed in the video is an LED case that's still a prototype. It increases your battery life, protects your phone, and adds an LED panel to the back of it. The cool thing about the LED panel is that you can connect to it with Bluetooth and push custom notifications to it. You can already use the the built in iPhone flash for alerts, but with this case you would get different notifications from each app. While I personally don't care about getting better notifications on the back of my phone, I'm sure some people will see the benefits of having the LED panel. There's no doubt that uNu is doing interesting things with cases. Learn more about what they're up to here.
