The endless running game that inspired an astounding variety of endless running games now has its very own sequel.

That’s right: Temple Run now has a truly worthy successor. And it’s called — tribal drum roll, please — Temple Run 2.

For a sequel of such a high-profile game, Temple Run 2 made nary a blip on the iOS gaming community’s radar. But if you ask me, its bypassing of any prerelease buzz makes its actual launch all the more exciting.

Temple Run 2 is out now in the New Zealand App Store, and it’s set to be available in the U.S. and elsewhere pretty soon.

While you wait for its release in your neck of the App Store woods, feast your eyes on the gameplay video above courtesy of YouTube user touchgameplay.

As you can see in the video, Temple Run 2 features gorgeous new graphics and environments as well as new obstacles and power-ups. But perhaps best of all, it features a bigger demon monkey to chase you as you try to escape with the cursed idol.

Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 4.2 or later, Temple Run 2 is available now for free in the App Store — in the New Zealand App Store, at least. Watch out for the release of this sure-fire hit in the App Store nearest you.
