Today Weather, the minimalist weather app from Agenda Calendar and Buzz Contacts developer savvy apps, has just received a significant update.

Released in mid-December last year, Today Weather is regarded by my colleague Christine as “a beautiful new way to view weather from all around the world, at once.”

Agreed. There are plenty of nice touches to like in Today Weather. But if I were to single out a favorite, I’d say it’s the app’s unique seven-day forecast, which displays the highs and lows using color-coded bars.

But going back to Today Weather’s significant update … It’s the app’s second update overall, but it’s the first feature update.

In the main, it delivers improvements to Today Weather’s radar integration. As a result, the latest version of the app enables the radar to zoom to the entire U.S. and update more frequently.

Beyond its focus on the radar, the update also lets you do the following in Today Weather:

  • Set background to always be day or night (Settings → Themes)
  • Toggle hourly wind information (Settings → Wind)
  • Set wind units to km/h, m/s, or knots (Settings → Wind)

And just like the newly updated Rise Alarm Clock, Today Weather has also gained support for URL schemes. Now, you can use “todayweather://” and “todayweather://local” to launch Today Weather using apps like Launch Center Pro.

Optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 6.0 or later, Today Weather is currently available in the App Store for the half-off price of $0.99.
