On The Right Track: Apple Maps Updated With Flyover Coverage Expansion And More

March 13, 2013
Despite getting off to a rocky start, or perhaps because of its rocky start, Apple's iOS Maps app has been getting significant improvements over the past few months. Recently, Apple issued a number of enhancements to Maps in Japan. But as pointed out by The Loop, important updates to the app as it relates to other countries have also been pushed by Apple. In particular, Apple has added Maps Flyover support for the following:
  • Baltimore, MD
  • Providence, RH
  • Portland, ME
  • Cleveland, OH
  • Green Bay, WI
  • Minneapolis, MN
  • Albany, NY
  • Indianapolis, Indiana
  • Cologne, Germany
  • Glasgow, Scotland
  • Buffalo, NY
  • Vancouver, BC
  • Tulsa, OK
  • Hoover Dam
  • Modesto, CA
  • Stockton, CA

Meanwhile, as noted by 9to5Mac, Google has just posted the above video, which features the essential gestures in using Apple Maps' biggest rival, Google Maps. Google Maps, which was relaunched on iOS as a new app in December last year, had been the infrastructure behind Apple’s Maps app since the launch of the iPhone in 2007. That was up until the release of iOS 6 last September, when Apple decided to come out with its own mapping solution, which would later receive widespread criticism.
