This Week In Accessories: Get More Power With This New iPhone 5 Battery Case

March 1, 2013
Welcome back to This Week in Accessories. Here are three new iOS device companions that caught our eye.

PowerSkin Battery Case for the iPhone 5

Just a few weeks after introducing the PoP’n external battery pack for the iPhone 5, PowerSkin is back with an integrated battery case for the handset. The PowerSkin has a built-in 1,500 mAh battery that extends talk time by up to 6.5 hours and music play by up to 32 hours. Along with an on/off button, the back of the case has a set of LED lights that tells users exactly how much battery power is left in the case. The PowerSkin can be purchased for $79.99 directly through the company’s site. If you order by March 7, express shipping is also free.

Optrix XD5

Following up on its popular XD4 for both the iPhone 4/4S and fourth-generation iPod touch, Optrix has just announced that the XD5 is now available for the iPhone 5. The system turns the handset into a rugged camera that allows users to record wide-angle HD videos under the toughest conditions. With a clear protective membrane, an iPhone 5 can still be used inside the housing. And a new rail mounting system allows for easy and quick on/off for helmets, chest mounts, water sport mounts, handle mounts, and more. The protective unibody system shields the iPhone 5 from pressure and makes it drop safe from 40 feet. It is also waterproof in depths of up to 15 feet thanks to an improved seal. You can snag the XD5 directly from Optrix for $129.95. It is also available at Best Buy, Target, Apple Stores, and at Apple.com.

Booq Boa courier

One of my favorite gadget bag makers, Booq, has just introduced another interesting everyday messenger bag. The Boa courier is made from water-repellant nylon and features reflective binding that makes the bag easier to see at night. A split-open design includes numerous pockets for quick and easy access to all of your frequently used items like an iPhone or laptop. An adjustable, nylon shoulder strap will allow the Boa courier to be carried across the chest or shoulder. The bag is also tagged with a Terraling serial number. Once registered with Booq, the service may make it easier to track down your lost bag. The Boa courier is available on Booq’s site. It is available in three different sizes. The bag designed for an iPad or 10-inch tablet is $99.95 while a 13-inch and 15-inch version cost $109.95 and $129.95, respectively.
